Shelter Gardens

Shelter Gardens is a beautiful botanical garden in the heart of Columbia that serves as a relaxation spot, provides a lovely backdrop for weddings and a place to learn.

Tucked away behind the Shelter Insurance® corporate headquarters on West Broadway in Columbia, Shelter Gardens is an award-winning five acre garden that features a “sensory garden” designed for the visually impaired, a Vietnam Veterans memorial, a replica one-room school house, a waterfall and reflecting pool, a stream, a rock garden, a gazebo, a giant sundial and more.

On any given day, you may see scientists or students studying the more than 300 varieties of trees and shrubs or the 15,000 annuals and perennials in the Gardens. These flowers, as well as the rose garden, make Shelter Gardens a popular spot for small weddings and local photographers. Shelter Gardens also hosts free concerts on designated Sunday evenings in June and July. Visitors are welcome daily between 8 a.m. and dusk, but closed on Christmas Day.
