Sassafras Moon World Gifts. We know it’s a bit of a mouthful. It’s an unusual name for an unusual shop. The unique, the practical, and the handmade all come together to offer a little bit of something for everyone on your list.
The name itself is a reflection of the creative mix brought to you by two sisters who combined their passions to share with the public all under one roof.
‘Sassafras Moon’ represents our artistic creations. With a glass studio and a large jewelry bead selection, many of our wares come to life right here in our shop! Others are handmade by local artisans. We feel it’s important to support local and area crafters and AgriMissouri products.
‘World Gifts’ represents our fair trade items. Fair trade is a system in which we work with certified organizations to import and offer hand-crafted goods that are created by people of developing or impoverished communities all over the world. Cutting out exploitative middlemen, they are able to make a dignified living with fair wages, which helps them to help themselves.
We knew this undertaking would require a unique space, so our building was specially designed and constructed. Ground was broken in February 2004, and five months later Sassafras Moon World Gifts opened its doors. You can find us in the community of Hallsville, Missouri, just ten minutes from Columbia.
