The Columbia Tourism Ambassadors are a certified group of engaged individuals who are committed to tourism and knowing the area to share with visitors.

Why is tourism important?

Tourism creates jobs, brings in new money to the local economy, and enhances the quality of life. One in every nine US jobs is tourism-related – that’s 14.9 million jobs! Tourism is big business not only to large cities, but also small communities. Here in Columbia and Boone County, tourism brings in $354 million.

Why choose Columbia Tourism Ambassadors?

The CTA program serves to inspire employees, tourism partners, volunteers, and Columbia citizens to turn every visitors encounter into a positive experience. When visitors have a positive experience, they are more likely to return in the future and also share their experience with others. Everyone benefits – the visitor, the industry, and the local economy.

Becoming a CTA means ensuring you understand your role in increasing tourism – the program will increase your knowledge of the region, provide answers to a variety of questions received from visitors, and will give you the chance to meet others and learn from their experiences.

The CTA program is not just training, it’s a certification. Completing the program means receiving a credential and accompanying initials that can be used behind your name – go ahead, try it out (e.g., Jim Smith, CTA).

The Columbia Convention and Visitors Bureau presents the official CTA designation on behalf of the Tourism Ambassador Institute, the national oversight body for the certification program.
