On August 21st, 2017, Columbia will be in the direct path of totality for a total solar eclipse! This will be the first total solar eclipse in the continental United States since February 26th, 1979.

What is a solar eclipse?
A lineup of the sun, the moon, and Earth. The moon, directly between sun and Earth, will cast a shadow onto our planet. If you’re in the dark part of that shadow (CoMo!) you’ll see a total eclipse. Find out more about solar eclipses here.

Make plans now to visit Columbia for this once-in-a-lifetime event! Since we will be on the center line, we’ll have a whole 2 minutes and 36 seconds of totality here in CoMo, starting at 1:12 PM.

The main viewing event will be at Cosmo Park – there will be food, music, activities, and more! Stay tuned for details on more activities and events being planned around the eclipse.
