Steele’s painting, Battle of the Overpass, along with other artwork displayed in the Museum’s American Gallery depicts social change and social tensions in mid-twentieth century America. Steele depicts an infamous clash between two auto workers and Ford Motor Company guards that occurred on May 26, 1937.
